Very clear, articulate, and purpose-driven. For a book on finding your purpose of course, that is ideal.

But you'd be surprised if you read other books on Amazon how they seem to drone on without any semblance of usable advice. I do read a lot of books, and this is a cut above others. There are very clear takeaways and the book is all about actually helping you, not just telling you what you probably already know + background crap.

Focusing on the HOW is 100x more important than the WHY - you picked up this book because you already know WHY you were drawn to it.

The biggest takeaway I got from Hung’s book is that it’s okay to feel lost. In fact you’re suppose to feel lost as your life and your purpose will change many times over. What this book does well is give you the tools to help you find your purpose any time you feel like you’ve lost it. Highly recommended!

I’ve read a few personal development books on Amazon and I would honestly say most are bad. You can find the same type of content by searching on Google. With that said this book is a refreshing read because you are given a glimpse into the author’s struggles and how he was able to find his way by overcoming obstacles. It’s a good 2-4 hour read which is what I prefer.

Comic genius

I don't laugh all that easily, but this book was just fun to read. Many times I laughed out loud. Several times I laughed until I cried. The plot at times verges on slapstick, but the real humor is in the little realistic details of the characters' personalities and the thoughts in their heads. The author simply has a hilarious way of expressing things. It was just the book to lift my spirits after the depressing one I read about a little boy growing up homeless in pre-revolutionary Iran. Sometimes you don't want a serious book. You want to relax. On the other hand, you don't want to read something stupid. Mad Love is intelligently funny, but not so intelligent that you have to think too hard. This was my first Nick Spalding book. It won't be the last.

Witty, intelligent and very very funny.

I am not a big fan of humor or comedy genre books but this one was a big exception. I love everything about it and enjoyed it a lot. The three main characters Adam Holborne, Jessica Madison and Cassie McFlasterton are just hilarious. The situations and the events the characters go through are pathetically funny.

The story is basically about this dating online website run by Cassie NcFlasterton which matches two persons together through an algorithm by computer, but the catch is that these strangers have to get married immediately in exchange of some benefits like a flat and other things. How can two total strangers cope with this situation? And were they really serious when they filled the application in the first place? That you need to read to know.
If this book did not make you laugh loudly, the least it will ensure there is a constant smile on your face while reading it. Reading this book is very much recommended specially if you need to read something light, funny but that is still filled with emotions.

I'm crazy about Nick Spalding's zany, fun, devil-may-care hilarity. The world has become a dark, scary, unhealthy place - any news report, any day of the week, every week, will justify that statement. Which is why we need more laughter. And Nick Spalding provides it - very well. Writing comedy is TOUGH, the hardest kind of writing there is.Hats off to Nick for keeping us healthier. Laughter is exercise for the organs. There are clubs devoted to either telling jokes or just sitting there laughing b/c it's contagious and so necessary - especially when everything surrounding us is doom, gloom - "You better," and "You have to, - or else." Thank God for all those who work so hard to bring much needed laughter into a time in history that is so dark.

Kim has done it again! This time exposing how Americans have been convinced by the talking heads of Wall Street and the Financial Entertainers that "average" gives substance and meaning to the "average" investor. Busting the Interest Rate Lies pulls back the curtain to expose that average rates of return are usually misleading, and are never to the benefit of the unsuspecting investor. As a matter of fact, unless the rates never change, average rates of return are almost always less than actual rates of return and worse, they communicate nothing of value that an investor can rely on. The roller coaster ride of the stock market, Real Estate or precious metals markets can make it seem like accounts are doing much better than in fact they are. About the Author

James K. Galbraith teaches at The University of Texas at Austin. He holds degrees from Harvard and Yale, and was a Marshall Scholar at King's College, Cambridge. He served as Executive Director of the Joint Economic Committee, US Congress, in the early 1980s. In 2010 he was elected to the Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei. In 2012, he was President of the Association for Evolutionary Economics. He is the 2014 co-winner of the Leontief Prize for advancing the frontiers of economic thought.

This is a difficult, worthwhile and informative read. Free market purists will not like it.

Galbraith's book will likely infuriate free-market purists, while it may strike more radical readers as a bit tepid in its analysis. The book is a somewhat difficult read--although short, it took me a good five hours to read. Galbraith is an economist, and uses a set of terms I found somewhat daunting; you do not need to be an economist to understand the book, but a reader who has had a recent economics course will find it easier to digest. That said, the book is loaded with information.

Galbraith does not condemn the free market; he condemns some aspects of it. Nor does he condemn competition or the accumulation of wealth, but cautions that wealth can become dangerous to society in some contexts (he is a bit harsh on the children of people who have accumulated great wealth). The beginning of the book is heavy on definition of terms and consideration of measure. What is wealth? What is income? How can it be measured? What is inequality and how can it be measured? These may seem simple but they turn out to be rather complex. Measures are inconsistent, and data from many countries is unreliable to nonexistent.

Galbraith sees a general pattern, with some variation regionally, of rough stability of income in the 1960s, a decline in inequality in the 1970s, then a sharp rise in inequality in the 1980s peaking in about 2000, with modest declines in inequality since. So, is inequality a motivator to strive for betterment? Does the market require unemployment to scare people into productive activity? Is inequality a function of freeloading drones? Here's Galbraith: "However, in this economist's view, the theories are not broadly persuasive and there seems to be no alternative to thinking of inequality as something societies construct..."

This is where some readers are going to get riled up. There is no basic science of the market. Inequality is a function of what societies create, a result of establishing legal and social privileges which are "essentially protections, subsidies and monopoly power." An example would be slavery, in which a dominant social view acts to control labor and channel wealth created by labor. Galbraith notes that inequality was accepted as a norm for many many centuries, and that the notion of inequality being a social problem is recent.

Readers need not read the whole book to profit from reading it. Chapter 2 looks at a number of economists and what they have had to say about the topic. These include Adam Smith, Keynes, Marx, Kuznets, Schumpeter and Veblen. There's a good summary of Schumpeter's view that the great danger is regulation by government which stifles innovation and change, and his view of "creative destruction." Chapter 3 discusses "categorical inequality" which might best be described as institutionalized barriers to success, such as societal rules about race and gender. These, says Galbraith, can change over time, such as Jews or Irish have in the US.

Chapter 4 looks at major concepts of distribution, largely definitional, who gets what wealth and how it can be measured--again, no worldwide standard. Chapter 5 examines measures of inequality, which is again definitional. Chapter 6 considers the US and causes of changing inequality. Chapter 7 looks at causes of changing inequality in the rest of the world. One interesting aspect is that he sees "financialization" as an important process, as a clumsy term for the shift in financial authority from government to financial actors (here, he seems to mean banks and globalizing corporations). Chapter 8 asks are we returning to the Victorian age, and this chapter is one I didn't quite follow, because most of it discusses Piketty's recent and famous book, picking it apart.

Chapter 9 examines norms and consequences. He notes that inequality is neither bad or good for growth. He seems to regard it as a social question, and also obviously sees it as a social problem. I say "seems" because I found some of the argument in this chapter a bit opaque and am not sure I understand it. However in Chapter 10, he discusses policies against inequality. He notes that free trade agreements are thousands of pages long and are actually highly detailed regulations for the control of trade, which unmasks the notion that such pacts reflect free markets. Galbraith sees a need for intelligent regulation that recognizes the role of competition, and that a society should act to reduce inequality as a way to retain a healthy economy (this is my wording, not his).

The book ends with two sections that are interesting but a bit off topic. Chapter 11 is a note on wealth and power, which sees wealth as potentially having way too much access to power (this has a flavor of power corrupting and absolute wealth corrupting absolutely). The last section considers whether economic equality leads to success in war; I found it a bit tedious but the upshot seems to be that a society characterized by equality will result in a stronger commitment to it by its citizens.

Journalist Molavi begins the chronicle of his year-long journey through a land in perpetual turmoil by saying, "This is a book about Iran and Iranians." Iranian American journalist Molavi spent approximately one year (1999-2000) living in Teheran and exploring the country that his family had left more than 20 years before. As he traveled the well-known cities (Isfahan, Tabriz, Khoramshahr) two decades after the revolution, he simultaneously explored the rich historical and cultural past of his roots. Molavi discovers two schisms in the popular consciousness, the first between the pre-Islamic Persian Empire dating from 500 B.C.E. and the current Islamic Iran, the second between a genuine devotion to Islam in the street and a concurrent wish for a green card or visa to a Western country. Cities with historical or cultural significance give him a springboard to discuss Persian poetry, the greatness of Persia, and more recent history and its effects. Unlike Elaine Sciolino's Persian Mirrors, which summarizes her experiences reporting from Iran for over 20 years and many visits, this account is total immersion. Using his journeys to religious shrines and conversations with Iranians from different walks of life, Molavi covers an immense period of time and history. Detailing pre-Islamic Iran when Persia was a thriving empire ruled by Cyrus the Great to the current economic hardships and conservative Islamic rule, this work is a rich and entertaining resource of Iranian history. Molavi illustrates many different regimes and rulers here: the 637 Arab invasion that brought Islam to Iran, the Safavid dynasty that secured the beginnings of Shi'ism in Iran, and, of course, the 1979 revolution. But the author also includes the vibrant culture and the hospitable people who cherish their great poets and who continue to revere the Ayatollah Khomeini while criticizing the hard life under the Islamic Republic of Iran. An useful introduction to the culture of a people

Afshin Molavi has successfully introduced a missing piece to the book market . His book provides a good answer to the repeatedly asked questions: Where is Iran? Who are Iranians? What did they do before the Revolution?
These are the questions asked before the Televisin sets by millions of people witnessing the angry protesting crowds, the blindfolded hostages and the rows upon rows of graveyards shwoing the fallen in the Iran Iraq war. Millions of Iranians who after the 1979 Revolution have become scattered all around the world also face these questions.
Unlike the Irish, The Scotts, or for thet matter Lebanese and Greeks, Iranians have not been an immigrating nation through the course of the history and therefore have not felt the need to produce introductory literature of any variety. Their history has been told first in the Bible and then by the Greeks and the Romans and later by the Arabs and Ottomans. Except for the Bible, the latter historians have not always been kind to them. Afshin Molavi, although exteremly briefly, has tried to provide answers and to put a personal touch to the history of a nation who has always been at the crossroads of the history, changed her name from Persia to Iran and has left her impression on the world affairs.
Persian Pilgrimages has an easy and soft narrative attempting to reveal deeper realities. I reccomend it to those who wish to know more about life outside their own sphere.

What to Learn from the Past.

First I heard Afshin on NPR's interview, and right then I recognized how well he knew his subject and how well he could articulate his analytical points (social & political). I appreciated this book in a significant and personal way. Away from Iran, one can connect the dots and understand that culture little by little. When you are too close to something you miss the big picture and all one sees is haziness and confussion. As I learn about my past history I feel few puzzles are left about my confussion. I, for one, never learned to read between the lines, perhaps I was too young and naive at the time. I do appreciate Afshin's writing since his book didn't require me to read between the lines. I enjoyed his book, I felt whole range of feelings while reading it, appreciated the depth of his coverage, and his analytical prowess. His book takes no side, and tells it like it is (an advantage of not growing up in Iran, a guess on my part). I am thankful for his work, and thankful that he safely made it back (one never knows who is a zeal/thug until it's too late.)

A Great Read

This book is so good that I read it twice! The author is an Iranian born, American raised and educated journalist. As a young adult, he spends about a year in Iran, undergoing a series of "pilgrimages" around the country. He shares his experiences. This book covers many aspects of Iran: travel, history, culture, politics and the ongoing struggle for freedom and liberty. The author does a great job and is objective (or as objective as one can be). My only criticism is the book is a little dated now.

This is a book that would normally cost 20-30 dollars, but costs three to four times as much because it is used in a college course. Unless you are stuck needing this book for a course, I would recommend looking for something targeted towards a "normal" consumer.
