About the Author

Frank Baba Eyiogbe has been practicing Santeria for over twenty-seven years: twenty-three years as a santero (Orisha priest) and eighteen years as a babalawo (initiated in Cuba). Frank has achieved the highest level of babalawo, "Olofista." He created the premier Santeria website www.orishanet.org, and has been a guest on NPR’s All Things Considered and The Global Guru and was interviewed for LIFE magazine. He has guest lectured at the University of Washington as well as UC Berkeley.

Excellent storytelling and honest teachings on Cuban Ifa

Baba Eyiogbe does an artful job of teaching through the combination of history and story. It is a treasure to read a book from a practitioner who walks the line between being truthfully informative and maintaining his vows on what is allowed to be public. If you are looking for deeper insight to the formation of Cuban (and by extension US) Ifa, this is an excellent starting point. It is sure to be a keeper on my bookshelf.

Don't start this book if you don't have time to finish it

This book is for anyone who has any interest in the Afro-Cuban Lukumi religious tradition -- known to some as Santeria, to others as La Regla de Ocha. Ifa sits at its heart, Ifa is the heartbeat. Frank Baba Eyiogbe, a babalawo, a priest of Ifa, explains how this magnificent religion traveled with the slaves through the Middle Passage from West Africa to Cuba, and became something entirely of its own in the New World. This is a book for all practitioners, be they santeros, santeras, oriates, obas, or babalawos, be they elders or the newly initiated. If you find yourself peeking in from the outside, this book is for you, too.
Babalawo is both masterfully researched and elegantly written. Frank Baba Eyiogbe draws on deep experience, both as a santero and as a babalawo, to explain the intricate inner workings of what remains a cloaked and hidden religious practice. Some secrets are secret, it turns out, for very good reason. Frank Baba Eyiogbe also brings to this story his American perspective, demonstrating by his own example that Ifa embraces anyone, everyone, who approaches with an open heart and an open mind.
In the end, this is a very human book about a very human religion that embraces all life everywhere all the time. This is a book that challenges all of us to seek answers to the questions we have yet to speak out loud. There are answers to those questions. About the Author
Dave Rearwin grew up surfing in Southern California in the 1950s with a crew that included legends like Rick Naish, Carl Ekstrom and Butch Van Artsdalen. He transitioned from balsa to foam, from longboards to shortboards, and from the no-leash, no-wetsuit era to the ease and comfort we enjoy today.

Surf Better is the product of his long and varied experience with all phases of surfing.
Responding to the needs of surfers of all skill levels, including those returning after long layoffs or recovering from injuries, he also developed a series of non-destructive, zero-impact, surf-specific exercises—exercises which proved their worth by allowing him to get back into surfing after non-surfing injuries forced a layoff of several years. These are included in the Dry Land Surf School section.

Something for everyone

Dave Rearwin's Surf Better is actually two excellent books in one. The thoroughly researched first half of the book offers a detailed analysis of ALL of the components of surfing. Chapters cover wave formation, tides, currents and how to interpret a surf report as well as everything from surfing technique to proper wave etiquette. Discussions of weight distribution, foot placement and body position are accompanied by photographs and detailed analysis. Checklists are given covering every stage of your wave from pre-ride through turning. Those new to the sport as well as experienced surfers will find it a valuable reference book.

The second half of the book contains what I feel is the real gem - the exercise program. Accompanied by photo illustrations of each exercise from start to finish, the exercises are simple and effective, requiring no special equipment other than a set of hand weights. You can do them all, or customize them to create a program that suits your needs. While these exercises are designed to complement surfing, the focus on flexibility, agility, strength and core stability form the foundation of any sensible exercise program. Whether you are an athlete, recovering from an injury or just want to be stronger and more flexible, these exercises will help you to reach your goals both safely and effectively.

i really liked this book

i have been surfing off and on for 46 years. i really never got really good at it although i have had my share of great waves.
this book has really helped me understand many things about surfing that i honestly never would have figure out on my own.
and it is all very practical help.
i wish i could find a book like this for everything in my life.

One of the better books for intermediate surfers

One of the few books I've seen for intermediates that goes into foot placement and mechanics without all of the "shredding" hype. My only complaint is the photos are really poorly reproduced and blurry.

Stunning, terrifying, and inspiring

I was privileged to see an early review copy of Khaled Sayed's latest photography book, Rebel. If you're familiar with Khaled's work from his documentary films about the Egyptian revolution in 2011, then you will be pleased to see his same style of visual storytelling captured here. The book shares Khaled's perspective on the four days of protest in 2013 that surrounded the efforts to oust President Morsi from office, with the strong support of the majority of the Egyptian people along with the nation's military forces.

It's chilling to see the sheer size of the demonstrations. Khaled's description of the events tells us that this was the largest single gathering of people in human history, and it looks that way from the photos. Khaled goes in close to capture the details and expressions, then pulls back to show the magnitude of the event. All along, the book is sets the pace as we move from sweeping panoramas to minute details most people might miss.

The descriptions at the beginning of the book set the stage well for what the pictures reveal. Despite the broad cross-section of people you see, it's hard to feel as if these are strangers. Khaled shows you what each person is feeling privately, but you can always sense the unusual public nature of the entire situation. With military helicopters circling overhead, and green laser pointers painting the sides of graffiti-covered buildings, the combination of anger and hope comes across vividly.

This book needs to be experienced from beginning to end. It tells a story that fits together as a cohesive whole, even though the questions raised by the juxtaposition of human emotion and military strength clearly paint the picture of a revolution that is unfinished.

Very Good Read

Comments:
The second book in the Reason for Revenge series. Janine, who was recently taken for thousand of dollars by her ex-fianc�, agrees to meet her two friends at an exclusive resort. The night of her arrival she meets Max and the attraction is immediately clear to both of them. Max hears from a friend and owner of the resort that his wife will be arriving in a few days and rightfully realizes that her mission is to get him back, but he wants nothing to do with his ex-wife. To get his ex-wife over her obsessive need to get him back he convinces Janine to pretend that they are married, a deal which would benefit both of them. They both play such a convincing role that the line of make-believe and reality become blurred.

Before they can allow their true feelings to come to the surface they both have to battle their inability to trust, Max because of his ex-wife's lying and cheating and Janine because she was engaged to a man who lied to her then stole from her.

I enjoyed reading this book because the characters are likeable and the heroine has spunk and doesn't take any BS and isn't afraid to let them know it.

I truly recommend reading this series in the order written:

2. Seduced by the Rich Man
3. Captured by the Billionaire

Disappointed

Second book in the series, I was disappointed. I found the book slow, and really hard to connect with the characters, lacking depth. The first book in series Scorned by the Boss was a fun read, hard to believe same Author wrote this one .

And this is the second book. The story is well written, but I felt the characters could have had more depth, the potential was there, as the first one a epilogue might have tied it together.

Well worth the money

I was in need of a good sauce book. I love to cook, but had a hard time finding sauce recipes. This book is great because not only does it have good sounding recipes, it also explains what they go with. I have tried a few and plan to use more.

You'll be wanting your partner or close friends to read it too so you can talk about it

I won't talk about the plot, since other reviewers have already said a lot about it. You will find this book full of good feelings. It is totally recommended if you want to escape into a good story, in a pleasant small town in Silicon Valley. It is the kind of book that will leave a smile on you face. But not only smiles, there are very hilarious situations that make you laugh out loud. You'll be wanting your partner or close friends to read it too so you can talk about it with them, like you do with movies. It is full of dialogue and internal thoughts of the characters, revealing the personalities of Sara, Ian and the others, and bringing you closer to them. The unexpected turn at the end and the resolution is very engaging and fun. You can't stop reading till the end! I just bought it yesterday and read it in a few hours!

Amooi has become one of the writers I follow, even though Romance is not my favorite genre. This is the third comedy in a row that I've read from him, and I've given them all 5 stars in my reviews. His books leave me wanting more stories like these. Congrats Mr. Amooi, you can be proud of this new story. I will recommend it to everyone I know.

After being submerged in thrillers for two weeks I needed a change, I needed to read something fun, cute and sweet and lucky for me I had just the perfect book, Kissing Frogs by Rich Amooi.

Geography teacher Sara Larson is not only happy that school is over, she also happy with her new house. Two months of vacations awaits her and she plans to sleep in everyday, but her neighbor has other plans for her. He is a sculptor who likes to start the day early, too early for Sara’s taste.
Sara can’t believe she is being awakened with a ruckus at seven in the morning on a Sunday. Even her poor dog Kili is missing her sleep. With no other option, she goes next door to ask her new neighbor to keep it quiet. What Sara wasn’t expecting was the nice specimen of a man that opened the door. After the confrontation, Sara perplexedly returns to her house. Her new neighbor, Ian, is not only hot as hell; he is also fun and smart. Sara knows she is in trouble, because after her last experience she promised herself never to date a neighbor again. She won’t succumb to Ian’s charms, even now that she’s desperate to find a date to go to her nemesis’ wedding in a month’s time, for that she has online dating.
Ian likes his new crabby neighbor. She is beautiful, funny and the chemistry between them is something they can’t deny. He knows she doesn’t date neighbors, but he is willing to do everything in his power to make her break her rule because he knows they are good together.

I liked Sara, she was a beautiful person and a great friend. After learning about her past it was easy to understand why she didn’t want to date her neighbor. Seeing her experience with online dating was incredibly entertaining. Her dates were all unusual, comical, but the best part they were believable.

Ian was a delightful character. I liked that he was cute, smart and caring. I loved how he was with his grandparents and with his best friend. I also liked what he did for Sara at the end, that showed how committed he was to make things work between them.

The chemistry between Sara and Ian was very obvious since their first encounter. I liked how things develop slowly between them. I also liked to see them fight what they were feeling, but failing in the intent. They are a cute couple, one that made me believe in their HEA.

The secondary characters make the story even more entertaining. Ian’s best friend, Billy, was hilariously funny as was Sara’s friend, Becky.

One thing I like about Rich Amooi’s books is that there is always a furry friend in them. I like that they are not just fillings in the story, they make an important part of it. In Kissing Frogs we have Kili, a beautiful and lovely Saint Bernard who eats everything she can find and is not aware of her size or her weight.

As I said before, Kissing Frogs by Rich Amooi is a fun, cute, and sweet book. Kissing Frogs is the perfect beach or pool read. It’s also the perfect book for those days when you want to read something that will make you smile and laugh out loud couple of times. I highly recommend it.

One of my favorite romantic comedies

I absolutely loved this book. I read it in one sitting. I just could not put it down! I loved the style, it's really fun and easy to read. I loved all the characters, especially Sara and Ian, they're both sweet and charming and you cannot help but falling for them right away. And above all, I loved the story, it's sweet and cute and funny, it has the right pace, and I got absorbed into it from the very first pages. It is just the perfect book to read on a summer day while you are enjoying your vacation. It achieves the right balance of being sweet and funny while keeping the story interesting without dragging it along too much. It is my favorite book by Rich Amooi so far. I cannot wait to read the next one!
